How Does California Stack Up?

Business and Education Partnerships in California

  • California Business for Education Excellence
CBEE was founded in 1999 by individual businesses and business organizations to give voice to the business community's interest in state education policymaking. It frequently collaborates with the California Business Roundtable and the California Chamber of Commerce, advocating on behalf of higher standards and accountability, often through advocacy campaigns. It also houses Just for the Kids-California to identify and highlight consistently high-performing schools through the "Honor Roll" program.

  • California Business Roundtable
The California Business Roundtable is a statewide nonprofit coalition of over 40 businesses advocating on behalf of a strong economy, a healthy business climate and the alignment of education with the competitive economy in California. It advocates on behalf of increased education accountability and more rigorous standards to grow the highly skilled workforce throughout California.
  • The Education Trust – West
Ed West is the West Coast arm of the Education Trust, an independent, non-profit organization that stands as a national leader in promoting quality education research, policy, and advocacy to close the achievement gap and provide all students with the best opportunities to succeed in America’s public schools. Ed West takes a hands-on approach to this mission, working side-by-side with educators, administrators, parents, and business and community leaders throughout California, in order to strengthen both the K-12 and higher education systems. One of Ed West’s central goals is to ensure that all students have the opportunity to enroll in and successfully complete California A-G curriculum, the state’s college preparatory curriculum.

  • Linking Education and Economic Development (LEED)
LEED serves the six-county Sacramento region and was founded by volunteer leaders of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce who realized that a prepared, educated workforce was a critical ingredient to overall economic prosperity.  Within the last year, the LEED board of directors has altered its business plan and scope of work to address national, state and regional educational and workforce development objectives. LEED’s revised scope of work includes three specific areas:  Workforce Development, Educational Development and Student Development. LEED is uniquely positioned in the region to work with employers, educators, students and parents, across organizational silos, to strategically link educational resources to meet regional workforce needs and economic demands. Within their scope of work LEED will define the current and future workforce needs of the Sacramento region; work with employers and educators to align curriculum and delivery models to meet those needs; and provide student and parents with the information they need to design the student’s own career path.
